Asharq Al Awsat

Role

Titles and GFX design, animation, style development

Designing and bringing to life a wealth of flat newspaper archive in an interesting and dynamic manner, as both an introductory title sequence and later animated sections of this documentary film about Asharq al-Awsat, the Arabic international newspaper headquartered in London. A pioneer of the "off-shore" model in the Arabic press. The New York Times in 2005 called Asharq al-Awsat "one of the oldest and most influential in the region".

The documenatry film shows the history of the paper from it’s conception, focusing on coverage of key historical events in the arab world, including the Camp David Accords, assassination of Egyptian president Anwar Saddat and the Lebanese Civil War. The paper is often noted for its distinctive green-tinted pages, this was reflected in the colours used in design.
